Chapter 1 – Today, I Let Him Go
Today, I Let Him Go
(I chose to say goodbye)
People often say that happiness is to love and be loved.
But for us, it was different.
Even now, I don’t really understand why we fell in love.
We were a mismatched pair in every sense of the word.
I was ten years older than him—mature, composed, deep in thought.
He was young, energetic, cheerful, full of life.
To everyone around us, he was the perfect guy.
They all said I was lucky to have him.
But no one knew just how indifferent he was to me.
He remembered everything—but he always forgot me.
Our first date—he promised he’d come.
But he never showed up.
Not a single reply to my messages.
His phone? Straight to voicemail.
And there I was—foolishly waiting, only to receive two words:
“I forgot.”
When I was bedridden with illness, friends checked on me every day.
But him? Not a single message—until days later:
“Are you better? I’ve been too busy to text.”
On my birthday, he disappeared again.
And once more, all I got was:
“I’m sorry! I forgot. I’ll make it up to you another day.”
Then there were the nights he left me standing alone in the freezing cold.
Phone off. No explanation.
He’d return past midnight, acting like nothing happened, never even asking how I felt.
Little by little, my heart grew cold.
It stopped reaching for him.
So I let go.
Let him go find a new happiness.
And I returned to the world I belonged to.
I loved him—but he never truly saw me.
He never made room for me in his life.
So I’ll simply wish him well…
May he find warmth and joy in the arms of someone who truly cherishes him.
